Dar es salaam, Tanzania – November, 2025
The Recycler, a leading waste management and recycling company in Dar es salaam, Tanzania has received impact-linked funding from Daraja Impact. The Daraja Impact program, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by SEAF in partnership with Alpha Mundi Foundation, provides and supports enterprises through impact-link, innovative financing and technical assistance to advance economic inclusion for women and youth in Tanzania.
The impact link fund will be used to establish and expand the women-led “Taka Pesa” waste-to-cash centers and expand critical waste management trainings across the country.

The recycler currently operates material recovery facilities in Dar es salaam and has collection centers in Arusha and Zanzibar, providing recycling services for plastics, paper, metal, glass, and hazardous waste. The company serves a range of corporate clients, including Serena Hotels and CRDB Bank. At the heart of its model is the “Taka Pesa” program, which empowers women and informal waste collectors by providing fair prices and a formalized structure for recyclable materials.

This investment will help scale this model, creating a new economic opportunities for women entrepreneurs. The company is also advancing environmental innovation by collaborating with cement manufactures to transform non- recyclable plastic into alternative fuel, significantly reducing CO2 emissions, and partnering with Biobuu limited for organic waste composting and insect feed projects.
This support will expand our Taka Pesa centers, create new income opportunities for women, and accelerate Tanzania’s shift toward a stronger circular economy,” said Peter, Recycler
“This funding empowers women entrepreneurs and strengthens Tanzania’s circular economy,” said Ezra Musoke, SEAF Tanzania. “The Recycler is turning waste into opportunity and sustainable impact.”
